New legislation passed by the Lord’s Council today ensures that all construction in Salisbury, Highgrove and Bakerswood requires government approval before it can commence.

Under the latest law of Gabon, it is now a criminal offence for anyone to construct a building or structure in protected areas without government approval.

Anyone who wants to build now needs either—

  • builders’ accreditation, which allows them to build anywhere in Gabon, or
  • a limited building licence, which allows them to build a specific building in a specific area of Gabon.

Failure to comply with the law could see offenders face jail or a hefty fine.

Locals have welcomed the new rules as protecting the strong architectural standards of Gabon, which have traditionally set it apart from other countries with more relaxed rules.

The laws come into effect immediately.
