Adina is off to the polling booths, with all government positions up for election.

The National Council of Adina voted on Sunday to dissolve the central government and hold elections.

Incumbent president, matanic1107, and incumbent civil guard captain, Imperator_Mendes, are set to be returned to office in uncontested elections. Although the government has included an approval poll for these positions, the Gazette understands that these are non-binding.

The structure of Adina provides for national representatives and a judge.

National representatives seek to remain neutral

Three Adinan citizens are contesting the national representative election, to receive a seat on the National Assembly which is Adina’s legislature.

None of the incumbent representatives are seeking re-election.

Onederful

“I think dedication, platform, experience, and who people know and trust are the main factors that voters should look at when making a decision,” said Onederful.

  • Infrastructure: Onederful wants to see an expansion of infrastructure in Adina. He wants to use the office to use government resources in managing the following specific works:
    • Development of an ice road to Alexandria
    • Development of a rail to Gabon
    • Development of a university district in Adina City, including a campus, shopping district and houses
    • Creation of a metro rail line in Adina City
    • Further infrastructure to northern Adina
    • Construction of outposts and settlements to reinforce claims in northern Adina
    • Creation of farms to increase XP production
    • Placement of bastions to protect outposts and towns
  • Defence: Onederful believes Adina should be able to rely on itself for internal defence
  • Culture: Onederful, who is a music producer, will write a national anthem for Adina
  • Government: Onederful believes the openness of opportunity is Adina’s best quality, and that ordinary citizens should continue to have a strong voice in government
  • Foreign policy: Onederful believes maintaining Adinan neutrality is the top priority, but that Adina should promote world peace. Adina should:
    • Connect to and develop meaningful relations with friends and allies, including Nro’meagh, Gabon and Caledonia
    • Promote local business to other nations, creating new opportunities for trade
    • Spread its neutral and peaceful ideals to other nations, in an attempt to stop meaningless conflicts
    • Refuse citizenship for known NATO and Laconian conspirators, as accepting them would be in conflict with neutrality — but his view on this could soften in peacetime
  • Newfriends: Onederful believes Adina should nurture newfriends and help them get used to the server

SkrrtCobain (Evann)

  • Infrastructure: SkrrtCobain wants to see an expansion of public farming infrastructure, including non-food farms, to allow citizens to start producing recipes or run businesses
  • Defence: SkrrtCobain believes Adina should invest more heavily in defensive infrastructure than it has in the past. Although he hopes it won’t need to be used, Adina needs to be able to defend itself without international aid. In particular, Adina should construct:
    • Several secure logoff points around Adina
    • Several potion bunkers
    • Storage for full combat loadouts in the sky bunker
  • Foreign policy: SkrrtCobain believes maintaining Adinan neutrality is important, as it assists in recruitment and free development. Adina should:
    • Develop outside relationships, but ensure that Adina does not become dependent on another nation and vice versa
    • Accept anyone who is not currently wanted or deemed a threat as a citizen, and give them the opportunity to prove themselves trustworthy
    • Be truly open to those who have marred pasts
  • Newfriends: SkrrtCobain believes Adina should teach newfriends the server and make them feel involved, including through the provision of opportunities for paid work

alzdadog (Aleh)

  • Infrastructure: alzadog wants to see Adina construct:
    • State-owned shop selling tools
    • Tutorial places for newfriends, containing basic commands
    • Better internal transport, linking up active parts of Adina
  • Foreign policy: alzadadog believes Adina should remain neutral, but should ratify treaties and form loose alliances with other like-minded nations for assistance in crises. But these relations should remain professional and Adina should not become dependent on the other nations and vice versa
  • Newfriends: alzdadog believes CivClassic has a high learning curve that should be taught to newfriends, involving them in the community and giving them purpose. He would push newfriends towards Adina City, to stimulate interaction with other citizens and fuel activity

Judges clash on conception of the role

There are two citizens contesting the election for judge, with one position available. Incumbent Pamaxwell is up against Orinnari, a former member of parliament in Bloom.

Significant debate ensued between the candidates about what the judge is meant to do with their office.

Notably, there has not been a case tried in Adina since the incumbent took office. But with the judge having a seat on that National Council, the role has the possibility of exercising other functions while there are no cases to dispose of.

Orinnari

  • Believes strongly in due process
  • Wants to reform the Constitution by:
    • Limiting the role of the judge through the removal of all extrajudicial functions, including removing the voting rights of the judge from the National Council but allowing it speaking rights
    • Only granting the judge power to perform judicial functions
  • Wants to engage citizens with the judiciary and the legal system, but does not state how this would occur or what type of engagement would be sought
  • Has experience as a judge

Pamaxwell

  • Believes the role of the judge should not be restricted to purely judicial functions — judges should be able to aid with other government responsibilities, including infrastructure and transport
  • Believes judges are government “all-rounders”
